Katja Herbers is the child of the violinist Vera Beths and oboist Werner Herbers. When she was a child, she accompanied her mother to America touring with the chamber music group L'Archibudelli. The parents of both her father and mother were married, and her mother was to Cellist Anner bylsma. They introduced her into the world of theatre. She had a Canadian au pair who taught her to speak Dutch German and English growing up. Herbers attended the Ignatius Gymnasium, in Amsterdam.
